I have a special plugin on myBB which enables a security question at registration. So far it has been very successful in stopping automatic spammers

I know it's hard for members to ignore (or to not take the bait), but yeah, that's the best solution/policy for any forums that's got too many of them.

You can't ban/get rid of them anyways yes? So just ignore them and let them be.

I was forced to make my entire site private, and I only gave out access codes to those I knew....

Yes that's a great way! Many sites use the Q&A captcha now-a-days.

Really? What happened? For me, I made the mistake of inviting what I thought was a friend into my private world. He quickly began making fun of me, and escalated to the point where he was out of control. He later admitted to cyber stalking me and going on all the sites I was on to continue to harass me. What a jerk....

Oh yeah, some guy wouldn't leave me alone... and argued with me in my entire forum (50-60 pages of argument)...
about everything (I think he was obsessed with me or something...)
and would say the most horrible thing to me in my OPs (like I just hate you or something...)
and then rant about me not answering him/ignoring in 2-3 to 5-6 pages.
