So yeah, I had a problem one of my sites (blogs/forum): one group of people was spreading rumours and gossiping
about someone (a member onboard) and it's gotten so bad that the member (and the ones who stuck up for him) left. What would you do in such a situation/case? |

That is considered Trolling, that would be an automatic ban in my book. Not everyone is going to agree with everything someone says or does, but utter disrespect is ill advised on most sites if not all.

I would either give him a warning or ban him depending on how series it was especially considering he is costing you members
|

Ban... No other words. If they do that, they don't need to be on a forum. They need to go back to highschool and get it all out there.

Depends the situation. I'd probably try to get both sides of the story and try to talk and be a mediator to see if the situation can be patched up.
Sometimes good members have a bad day that can reveal a whole new person and situation may be quite different hearing the other side. Impulse banning is quite dangerous and I think as a staff it is important to feel secure we understand the situation well before delivering. |

Depending on the severity of the gossip and rumors, I would contact each member individually and speak to them about not spreading personal--fake or real--information on the forum about any member whatsoever. It really just depends on how much was said and exactly what was said, and so I'd deal with it on a case-by-case basis.

I guess the intent is what really makes it bad. People usually spread rumours to mine your reputation and gossip can be hurtful to find out because you could wish people just addressed the problem and said to your face whatever instead of going behind your back to talk about every little slip they think you've made. I've learn that people that know me won't shun me just because someone doesn't like me an talks bad things about me so I am not longer worried about gossip or rumours, specially if they are make believe. My real worry is when someone who knows me too well decides to go that route spreading private confessions and stuff, I can open easily and online I am worse.
